Menard Solution

The Port of Umm Qasr is located approximately 52km south of Basrah and is one of the two main ports of Iraq. The port has road links NW to Basrah and South across the Kuwait border, plus a main line rail link NW to Basrah.

BMT Container Terminal Yard 5 is situated at the northern end of the port. The project consists in the development of a new container terminal in the port of Umm Qasr, Iraq

Menard undertook the project on a turnkey design & build basis with the full responsibility for the execution and design of the PVDs and surcharge to achieve the client’s requirements in terms of time and future performance of the terminal over a period of 20 years.

The scope included as well the optimization of the volume and scheduling of the surcharge in order to optimize the client’s expenditures, which helped reducing the volume of surcharge required by about 20-30% compared to the initial expectations.

In support to the scheme, Menard setup a fully automatic monitoring system including settlement plates, piezometers and multidepth settlement gauges to continuously follow the progress of the consolidation and the achievement of the requirements.
