Menard Solution
Menard Middle East were appointed by Main Contractor (GHANTOOT Transport & General Contracting) and Abu Dhabi General Services Company (MUSANADA) to provide a ground improvement solution for the Construction of Roads 12,13,14 and 25 located in Shakbout City Abu Dhabi.
Historically the roads had been continually affected by recurring settlement issues resulting in repeated collapse of the road surface and adjacent structures. Menard undertook extensive soil investigation works resulting in an innovative and sustainable design solution which identified and resolved the problematic settlements caused by the migration of fines and dissolution of existing salt layers resulting from the presence of uncontrolled dewatering and underground water channels running across the site.
Selected Techniques:
- 450mm Reinforced Controlled Modulus Columns (CMC) supporting a reinforced structural slab.
- 350mm Controlled Modulus Columns (CMC) outside of slab area and under the future services
- 900mm Controlled Modulus Columns (CMC) combined with a very high tensile geogrid which was used for the first time in the region
- Inclined Grouting to reinforce soil beneath existing utilities
- Probing and Grouting to mitigate the risk of cavities
